The Zhangjiajie National Forest Park consists of 3000 peaks surrounded by thousands of sandstone pillars and watrfealls. The peaks are blanketed in clouds and mist. 76% of the whole area is covered with peaks and within the peaks there are beautiful mountains, caves, lakes and waterfalls.

A detailed description of one of the main attractiions :
Tianmen Mountain:
- At the top of the park is an 80 foot arch known to the locals as the number one bridge over the heavens.
- The arch is the highest natural bridge in the world.
- The mountain also is the highest in Zhangjiajie it is 4,980 feet tall.
- There are 40 peaks around the mountain which are over 3,200 feet.
- The Tianmen Mountain cableway is the longest mountain cableway in the world the length of the cableway is 4.5 miles.
- It starts from the city center of Zhangjiajie to the Hanging Garden on the peak. It's good for seeing the breathtaking views.
- Tianmen Cave which means the Heaven's Gate in Chinese. The cave is over 4,133 feet in elevation. The height of the cave is 432 feet and the width is about 50 meters.
- To the locals it looks like the door to heaven.
- Guests may need to walk up 999 steps to reach the cave. 9 is the biggest number in Chinese culture and 999 means an eternal life.
- Bonsai Garden also known as Hanging Garden. On the peak of Tianmen Mountain the main area that should be protected is named Bi ye yao tai.
- The whole area looks like a natural bonsai.
- Heaven-linking Avenue is the twisting mountain road from the bottom of the mountains to Tianmen Cave.
- The mountain road is less than 11 kilometers but the elevation rises from 200 meters to 1300 meters.
- Ninety nine turns decorate the road. The twisting road is like a white dragon lying on the mountains.
- The Cliff-Hanging Walkway was built along the edges of this mountain. The walkway is 1.6 kilometers long and 1,400 meters high.
- The Glass Skywalk is part of the cliff-hanging walkway. The sky walk is 60 meters long with a width of 1.6 meters. On a clear day you can see the drop of thousands of feet below.
